“I wrote this review while participating in a campaign for Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Genworth. I attended a live event and received a promotional item to thank me for participating.” http://www.momcentralconsulting.com/
My kids and I took a stroll to the Flatiron District NYC to learn about about long term healthcare with Genworth and spokesperson Rob Lowe. Yes, Rob Lowe. The Genworth #LetsTalk tour will be visiting five cities across the United States – New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Dallas – in addition to engaging people via social media.
Birch Coffee welcomed guests with their amazing iced coffee and free coffee mugs and a photo booth with a enormous prop of a coffee mug. My kids enjoyed their pictures with the mugs.
The need for long term care affects nearly everyone fortunate enough to live a long life – 70 percent of those who live past age 65 will need some form of long term care at some point.
The Genworth Cost of Care Study is a great source of information. (Found at http://www.genworth.com or get the App.)
Services at an adult day health care center cost more than $16,000 a year.
One year of home health aide services costs, on average, more than $45,000. (That’s nearly the median household income in the United States!)
A one-bedroom room in an assisted living facility is typically a $42,000 annual expense.
A private room in a nursing home can average more than twice that.40 Costs are, of course, even higher for couples seeking services.
Rob Lowe said “Long term care is the most overlooked health and retirement security issue facing Americans today.” He’s excited to help kick-off Genworth’s #LetsTalk Tour, an initiative to help families start the conversation around long term care planning,” says Lowe. “The timing couldn’t be more perfect. He also said ” having that talk is like the adult Birds and the Bees, you don’t want to have that talk but you have to.
I loved that quote and it’s good to see how concerned he is and how he had this conversation with his loved ones.
A surprising fact I learned about long term care was: people are five times more worried about being a burden on family than they are about dying.

I know what I have to do. This was a very informative day with Genworth and Rob Lowe. I am going to have this conversation with my mother and inform her of this valuable information. She loves having talks so I expect this to go smooth.
