Getting my daughter’s ears pierced the second time around

31 Mar

If you keep up with my blog you know I have 3 boys and a girl so as a first time mom to a girl I was kind of worried about getting her ears pierced and who was going to do them. I noticed babies always had their ears pierced at a very young age but it seemed like a circumcision to me because their so innocent and fragile and don’t have a choice so I waited.

If I’m not mistaken my daughter was about 3 years old when I first attempted to get her ears pierced and it went by pretty good but she screamed up a storm. Everything was okay until the day the earrings came out and the new ones went in. The one’s I chose for her had a snap down like a small hoop earring and I snapped it down one day and it snapped her ear I didn’t know. It was bleeding and I was even scared. She was crying even more and that was the end of that.

After apologizing, cleaning her up, and making my daughter feel better I decided to let the hole close up and wait till she got older and see could decide if she wanted her ears pierced or not. Well she did. When she started school she said all the girls in her class has their ears pierced, and she sees me changing my earrings, and her grandmother just got her ears re-pierced so she would ask everyday.

Unlike me and my sister who had to wait to get our ears pierced till we were in our late teens because my father said we had enough holes in our bodies I gave my daughter the choice at an earlier age.I hated clip on earrings by the way. They pinched and never had a good selection.

I was able to get a few pictures. I will be taking a lot more. She looks so different now with them. My cutie pie!!!!

@_petite PARADE Day 2 #kidsfashionweek

24 Mar

Day 2 was just as fun as Day 1 and My daughter and son tagged along today for more amazing fashion. I took pictures too but will put the professional images by John Parra on this blog attached to the link along with a few of my own down below. Scheduled were Bonnie Young, Pale Cloud, Ki6, Iceberg, Miss Bluemarine, Silvia’s Heach Kids and Music by 9 year old DJ Fulano.

There was a Creative Workshop presented by The Little West Group and milkPOP in support of Only Make Believe. Kids got to decorate sneakers, t-shirts, or pillows with all types of glitter, markers, paint, ribbons, and crystals. My daughter did a t-shirt and a pillow for a small fee which went for a great cause Only Make Believe.

The 5:00pm showcase featured Andy & Evan, Beatrix New York, Cupcakes & Pastries, Isabel et Toi, Kissy Kissy, Pimalinda, Reina Mora, Snopea, SUOAK, Umi, Zutano, and Zuzii.
The 5:30pm show were all about the shoes Akers Kids, Saucony Kids, Sperry Top-sider, and Stride Rite.

The picture of DJ Fulano was taken by photographer Alix Martinez.

Once again every show was amazing and my daughter loved just about every outfit. My son enjoyed himself and they also enjoyed the amazing cupcakes by Georgetown. Delish! Snacks are always a must with kids so glad they made sure we were taken cared of and gift bags always a winner!! Met a lot of people this year and I’m glad I did. Also great to see my fellow bloggers and a few celebrities in the audience like June Ambrose, Alex McCord, Simon van Kempen and the Novogratz.

@_petitePARADE #kidsfashionweek Diesel Kids Fashion Show

24 Mar

Diesel was the last show on Day 1 and they were accompanied by a special live School of Rock House Band Performance which rocked!! There was also a make-your-own flip book workshop. Everyone also got lollipops and candy was given out by the models at the end of the show.
I’ve always loved Diesel and were glad when they made a kids line. All the kid models were so cute and did a great job in all of the shows.

My daughter managed to get on the runway with her friends and pose for pictures once it ended of course. They all should have been in the show. We enjoyed ourselves and couldn’t wait for Day 2.

@_petitePARADE Review of #kidsfashionweek Target Runway Showcase

24 Mar

March 9 was the first day of kids fashion week and I was beyond thrilled to get to come back and experience all the great styles and trends for kids. My daughter accompanied me again this year and she was excited as well. I’d like to thank Bryan Arenas for all his hard work and giving me the invite. If you have kids, and you’re into fashion then @_petitePARADE is where you need to be every year. Fashion, and Kidswear Editors gathered and mingled with haute mommy- bloggers, designers, and buyers to experience the newest collections and watch the little fashionistas hit. The runway to amazing tunes by petite DJ’s and a live band.

The first show up was the Target Runway Showcase which featured Target’s bull terrier mascot which guests had the opportunity to take pictures with after the show. Guests also received a stuffed dog which is the bull terrier mascot for Target. My daughter enjoyed meeting her in person and also enjoyed taking pictures with her BFF’s and Tristan and Tyler. She loves the camera too and wants to be on the runway soon.
DJ Kai Song was on the turntables and is only 8 yrs old.

@DisneyLive Mickey’s Music Festival Review

24 Mar

Took the kids to see @DisneyLive Mickey’s Music Festival at Madison Square Garden on opening night courtesy of @havesippy. I kept thinking it was Disney on Ice for some reason which we saw at Barclay Center but this was nothing like that one. This was live on stage characters who wanted you to get up out of your seat and jam to the sounds of hip hop, reggae, rock, and country with the stars from Aladdin, Toy Story, and The Little Mermaid. Of course this couldn’t be a show without Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy. There were more than 25 Disney stars featured in the performance.

There was a performance where the little mermaid sisters danced and singed to “All The Single Ladies.” Loved it!!
There was also a meteor shower during the Toy Story act where the meteors came off stage into the audience which were giant inflated balloons. If you’re in the front rows you might get a chance to throw the balls around.
The Under the Sea lights of the fish and creatures under the water was cool in a 3D sort of way.

They had a great selection of music and we enjoyed ourselves and every act.
We got to have a meet and greet with Mickey and Minnie after the show and my kids were given gift bags. My daughter loved meeting Minnie I think she wanted to take her home with her. Lol.

Since a lot of schools are on Spring Break this would be a great time to take the kids to the show. You will be standing up and dancing and just having a great time!!

@BabyKuuClothing Spring Trunk Show @HaberdasheryNYC

24 Mar

I took my daughter to @HarlemHaberdashery for their @BabyKuuClothing Spring Trunk Show on Saturday. I am so glad we went because we found the dress my daughter is going to wear for her graduation in June. All the dresses were beautiful and I will be a customer knowing that these dresses are organic, manufactures in the USA, and that the owner Talana Riviere and I share a childhood of memories dressing up with our classic dresses, ruffled socks, penny loafers, and bows in our hair. I always said if I have a daughter I want her to dress the way my mother dressed my sister and I when we were growing up. I am glad she loves dresses and is a little princess. If you go on their website you will find clothing for boys and girls. (www.babykuu.com) You can also find her on Twitter as mentioned above and Facebook (Facebook.com/BabyKuu) Talana, her assistant, and my daughter had fun together. They are very sweet and she is an incredible designer.

My daughter also love barrettes, bows, headbands, clips, okay anything that goes in her hair with nice colors or sparkles. Also showcasing @HarlemHaberdashery was Plush Bows. They make handmade head bows for infants and young girls. They also turn bows into clips and headbands. Of course my daughter wanted all of the bows but we narrowed it down to 3 even though she tried to sneak in one more. Amazing prints, colors, and Swarovski bling for your little girl. The owner is Shante Hines and she was very nice and welcoming. My daughter took a picture with her which will be in the gallery below. You can check her out on her website at PlushBows.com and Facebook.com/PlushBows

Harlem Haberdashery is an amazing boutique in the heart of Harlem with clothing that you will see on customers who know style and quality. One of a kind pieces made to order from kids to adults. There is also a wonderful selection of eyewear from @5001FLAVORS to @RebelloEyewear. They are located at 245 W. Lenox Avenue btwn 122nd &123rd. I mentioned their Twitter handle above and you can check out their website http://www.harlemhaberdashery.com The owners are beautiful, friendly neighbors and my daughter and I had a good time getting to know them.

The event was catered with delicious turkey burgers, appetizers, juice for adults, and kids, and amazing cupcakes from PinkCupcakes located in New Jersey. The website is NATSPINKCUPCAKES.COM
The kids also played games, arts and craft, relay race, jellybean contest, and won lollipops, and my daughter won Hello Kitty headphones from the relay race.
Charles Rangel even stopped by to look around.
@GOLDENMAGAZINE were also in the building taking pictures of the kids in the beautiful clothing.
Just want to thank everyone my daughter and I met for a fun Saturday afternoon.
Enjoy the pics!!

Kindergarten Class trip to the Fire Zone with my daughter

23 Mar

I accompanied my daughter and her class to the Fire Zone located in midtown manhattan 34 W 51st on Friday and learned a lot about fire safety from how to prevent, plan, and practice. Children have to learn how to listen and be told what to do if a fire ever occurs so we as parents have to practice in our house just as your child have fire drills in school. Ned the firefighter showed us tv interviews from real people who experienced fires from things you would never think would start a fire like a blanket left on a portable heater, to a dog knocking over a candle and the teddy bears going up in flames, or a frying pan left on the stove with grease. It can happen and we need to be prepared.

Ned also showed the class the equipment and protective clothing they wear and how heavy these items are but it has to be that way to protect them. Jackets have special lining and there is a neck mask to wear to protect their skin. Also did you know in every firefighters helmet they carry a piece of wood which is known as a door stopper so they can keep the door open when they are getting victims out? The boots are steel toe to protect anything from dropping on their feet and crushing them.

The kids got to experience what it was like to get in a fire truck, put on fireman jackets, and even go into a room that look like it was caught on fire. There was fake smoke, fire alarms going off, lights blinking, and they got to crawl out of the room when the smoke appeared.

Make sure batteries are always working in your smoke alarm and don’t ever ignore it when it goes off. It is a life saver.

We had a good time and if any one wants to visit they are open Monday – Saturday 9:00-7:00 and on Sundays 11:00- 5:00. You can call 212 698-4520 or go on their website http://www.Fdnyfirezone.org

THE CROODS REVIEW

20 Mar

By now every household should know who The Croods are so I’m not going to write a whole blog about the movie but I am going to tell you how much my kids and I enjoyed it very much, and how we wish The Croods were our neighbors today. I need neighbors who are excellent hunters, survivors, fast on their feet, and know how to protect their loved ones by any means necessary. They could show me some stuff, and I could teach them a few things here and there.

The overprotective dad (Grug) is just being like any other dad. I like Gran and Sandy because they don’t play. Every character is fun in their own way.

I encourage everyone to see this 3D animated movie whether you have kids or not. I can’t wait for the DVD and I hope there is a part two. It is in theaters Friday, March 22nd with an amazing all star cast including Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Cloris Leachman, and Ryan Reynolds.

I’d like to thank Melissa and Denise of @themoms for the invite to this screening and for providing treats and gift bags for the kids. We also met with the filmmakers Kirk DeMicco and Chris Sanders, and Catherine Keener the voice of Ugga after the screening.

LEGO DUPLO MY FIRST GAS STATION REVIEW BY MY DAUGHTER TAYLINN

13 Mar

My daughter had the chance to review a cool Lego toy she received as a thank you for reviewing another toy. LEGO DUPLO make amazing toys for age appropriate kids and Taylinn received the My First Gas Station building toy for ages 2-5. It contains 45 pieces of Legos and you can create your gas station to look whatever way you want. It also has a restroom, and convenience store, and comes with a car and motorcycle, two gas pumps, and a boy and girl. Taylinn and I had fun putting our imaginations to the test. Everyday she thinks of something new to build. What I like about Legos is you can keep adding to your collection by purchasing more. She made a few funny creations that a 5 year old would do and she hopes you like them.

CINDERELLA ON BROADWAY

6 Mar

Cinderella on Broadway was the best family Broadway show of this year. It is different than what you expect and I mean that in a good, funny way. I encourage all ages to see it. The cast is incredible and the costume changes on stage is amazing. That’s the first time I’ve ever seen anything like that. When you see it you will know exactly what I’m talking about so pay attention when Cinderella magically changes her outfits. There are so many funny scenes we couldn’t stop laughing. The step mother and step sisters weren’t what you expected either. Sometimes they were nice to Cinderella and other times they were just what they seemed. The Prince was charming and very, very considerate and thoughtful just like Cinderella.

The entire cast did a wonderful job and played their parts to a tee. The fairy godmother gets to fly around stage which she told us in a q & a after the show that at first she was afraid of heights but she got used to it and now that’s the best part when she performs. She enjoys flying and being up high in the air.

The raccoon and fox had fun parts as well.

I would love to take the kids and see this again. I highly recommend seeing this with the family.
I want to thank @themoms for making this possible for us to see and providing gift bags and snacks for the parents and kids. We made it home before the clock stroke midnight!!!

Below are pictures and I also got pictures of some of the cast after the show. The Prince and Cinderella are on the left. The step mother is in black with the hat on. The character who plays the the Tree is in the green shirt. The fairy godmother h
