The kids and I got up early on Sunday morning for a fun filled family day in Queens at the New York Hall Of Science for the Mama’s Expo. I was just there that Thursday with my son for his class trip but my daughter never been so she was in for a treat. I thought the trains wouldn’t be cooperating on the weekends but it was pretty good, crowded but we got seats going and coming back, and the walk from the train to the hall wasn’t as far as I expected.
We were greeted by @HonestTea booth who were giving out samples and pouches to the kids. Very refreshing!! Love Honest Tea!! There were so many vendors and they all were great.
I was on the press list so checking in was fast and we also received free golf tickets and admission into the VIP lounge where my daughter did Arts & Craft, made a t-shirt, and we saw a few new products for the babies.
My son got to show my daughter the things he did on his trip and remembered where everything was more than I did.(Short term memory loss for me) Lol.
They had a blast and also enjoyed the free samples of cupcakes, candy, and even a chocolate fountain that you could use pretzel sticks with. Yum!! I think the golf park was their favorite and the best free item was the goldfish that were being given out. We got 3. They also enjoyed the ginormous bubbles, rock climbing, and racing each other in wheelchairs. We immediately bought a fish bowl, food, and cleaner. We are still thinking of names for them. I made some purchases as well and met a lot of nice people.
We ate lunch there which was very good. Chicken tenders, pizza, @Applegate hotdogs, lemonade.
There were also singing and dancing in different parts of the hall. We enjoyed making our own lima bean plants.

The kids, my cousins, and I are going to start our Earth Day fun tomorrow Sunday 4/21 at Marcus Garvey Park for Global Earth Day. The park is located on Madison Avenue between 120th and 124th. I took my kids to a book signing @LaCasaAzulBooks bookstore located in East Harlem to hear about and get the fabulous cookbook Muy Bueno Three Generations Of Authentic Mexican Flavor. First let me start by saying this is the best looking bookstore ever!!! I would live there if I could. Lol. The owner is beautiful and sweet and they have so many events and cooking classes.They’ve only been around 10 months so they have a 1 year anniversary coming up in June. It is so neat and quiet, set up is amazing, gorgeous stove that I wanted to take home, and my daughter immediately ran to the kids section where I purchased 2 books and stickers for her, a Spanish/English dictionary for my son, and for me the cookbook that was featured.
A family that cooks and eats together stays together and this amazing cookbook proves that. Three generations giving their audience delicious recipes through their grandmother’s eyes for her Mexican cuisine, their mother’s South of the border home style dishes, and the Latin fusion from the 3rd generation authors and sisters Veronica Gonzalez Smith, and Yvette Marquez Sharpnack.
I come from a mixed family so I grew up learning the Spanish recipes from my father whose parents are from Spain, Comfort foods from my grandmother who was from North Carolina, and my mother whose not too much of a cook I paid attention but taught her a lot as I got older. To this day she prefers my cooking over her own. I cannot stress enough how much I absolutely love cooking, baking, and enjoy having my kids in the kitchen with me learning and getting dirty, also paying attention, and asking questions. Kids grow up so fast and they need to know how to cook and not depend on anyone or fast food restaurants. I’m not saying they should ever turn down a meal if someone wants to cook for them or if they want to go to a restaurant but it’s very important to have this skill.
What made me want to attend this book signing was I wanted to try some new recipes that were authentic and any recipe that you can remember or still have on paper from your grandmother you know it’s gonna be good. I also love the fact that it is created by three generations who will also pass it down to their kids. The pictures are beautiful and makes you want to dive right in. I always wanted to write a cookbook but never knew where to start. Maybe one day.
Veronica and Yvette had a dish prepared for the audience to sample. It was their amazing Mushroom, Jalapeño, and Cilantro Salsa. I’m not a fan of mushrooms but when I tasted it you couldn’t even tell they were in there because the other ingredients were so good as well I forgot about them.
I want to make the Cilantro Lime Rice and the Coconut Flan because my father used to always give my sister and I flan. All the recipes are simple and I can’t wait to try them. I will post pictures when I do. Took the kids to see @DisneyLive Mickey’s Music Festival at Madison Square Garden on opening night courtesy of @havesippy. I kept thinking it was Disney on Ice for some reason which we saw at Barclay Center but this was nothing like that one. This was live on stage characters who wanted you to get up out of your seat and jam to the sounds of hip hop, reggae, rock, and country with the stars from Aladdin, Toy Story, and The Little Mermaid. Of course this couldn’t be a show without Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy. There were more than 25 Disney stars featured in the performance.
There was a performance where the little mermaid sisters danced and singed to “All The Single Ladies.” Loved it!!
There was also a meteor shower during the Toy Story act where the meteors came off stage into the audience which were giant inflated balloons. If you’re in the front rows you might get a chance to throw the balls around.
The Under the Sea lights of the fish and creatures under the water was cool in a 3D sort of way.
They had a great selection of music and we enjoyed ourselves and every act.
We got to have a meet and greet with Mickey and Minnie after the show and my kids were given gift bags. My daughter loved meeting Minnie I think she wanted to take her home with her. Lol.
Since a lot of schools are on Spring Break this would be a great time to take the kids to the show. You will be standing up and dancing and just having a great time!!
By now every household should know who The Croods are so I’m not going to write a whole blog about the movie but I am going to tell you how much my kids and I enjoyed it very much, and how we wish The Croods were our neighbors today. I need neighbors who are excellent hunters, survivors, fast on their feet, and know how to protect their loved ones by any means necessary. They could show me some stuff, and I could teach them a few things here and there.
The overprotective dad (Grug) is just being like any other dad. I like Gran and Sandy because they don’t play. Every character is fun in their own way.
I encourage everyone to see this 3D animated movie whether you have kids or not. I can’t wait for the DVD and I hope there is a part two. It is in theaters Friday, March 22nd with an amazing all star cast including Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Cloris Leachman, and Ryan Reynolds.

Cinderella on Broadway was the best family Broadway show of this year. It is different than what you expect and I mean that in a good, funny way. I encourage all ages to see it. The cast is incredible and the costume changes on stage is amazing. That’s the first time I’ve ever seen anything like that. When you see it you will know exactly what I’m talking about so pay attention when Cinderella magically changes her outfits. There are so many funny scenes we couldn’t stop laughing. The step mother and step sisters weren’t what you expected either. Sometimes they were nice to Cinderella and other times they were just what they seemed. The Prince was charming and very, very considerate and thoughtful just like Cinderella.
The entire cast did a wonderful job and played their parts to a tee. The fairy godmother gets to fly around stage which she told us in a q & a after the show that at first she was afraid of heights but she got used to it and now that’s the best part when she performs. She enjoys flying and being up high in the air.
The raccoon and fox had fun parts as well.
I would love to take the kids and see this again. I highly recommend seeing this with the family.
