COFFEE LOVERS CHECK OUT #LIFEISGOOD #DOWHATYOULIKE #spon #coffee

9 Mar

On March 6, 2014, Penn Station in NYC was packed full of coffee lovers for the #LifeIsGood event. Commuters were greeted by staff with coupons for $1 off coffee purchases and of course free coffee in a variety of flavors. There was also live music, and giveaways. Bloggers and media got to sit down in the Life Is Good lounge and relax to the music and enjoy the delicious flavors of coffee. It felt like I was just sitting in my living room on my couch enjoying good cups of coffee. I tried the S’more to Love coffee first which is a rich campfire classic and you are sure to taste the melty chocolate graham cracker and fluffy marshmallow flavors. The next flavor I tried was their Dark and Daring. For those coffee drinkers who love dark brewed, bold flavor then this will certainly knock your socks off. Happy Medium was also being given out for coffee lovers who enjoy an Arabica blend with a compromise of light and dark roasts. Surround yourself with its positive energy and savor an all-around at-ease coffee experience.

I will use my coupons to purchase all the flavors and especially the Banana Bread Bliss which sounds amazing. My favorite at Penn Station was the S’more to Love. My kitchen cabinets will be stocked with Life Is Good coffee.

Richard Blais/Alli Luncheon #60DayKickStart

10 Jan

I kindly accepted the invitation to meet Richard Blais at the Andaz when I found out I was going to learn how to eat healthier especially during the holidays when everyone pigs out. (Yes we all do it). I wanted to know how to swap and still have a meal good enough to fill me and my family’s tummies up.

Richard Blais, chef, restaurateur, and winner of Bravo’s “Top Chef All-Stars”, has partnered with alli®, to find high fat ingredients in your holiday favorites and swap them with healthier options that taste just as great.

He has been working with alli® in creating a bevy of menu options that work in tandem with the supplement for better and longer lasting results.

Alli (60 mg orlistat capsules) is the only FDA approved over-the-counter weight loss aid clinically proven to help boost weight loss efforts. alli® is for weight loss in overweight adults,18 years and older when used along with a reduced-calorie and low fat diet.

He prepared a fabulous 3 course meal for all those in attendance. He also talked about his cookbook and his his show “Cook Your Ass Off” that I finally got to see on the HLN network channel 58 on Time Warner Cable. I think if he wasn’t a chef he would make a great comedian because I couldn’t stop laughing. The recipes for the meals he created will be posted below. I can’t wait to try the recipes from the cookbook as well as the Alli cookbook too.

With my diabetes I am really trying to eat more healthy not just for me but for my family as well and this luncheon couldn’t have came at the right time. I also heard about Alli years ago but didn’t know if it was right for me but after speaking to nutritionists and doctors I might give it chance. I have to control my diet and exercise more. Richard lost a lot of weight by taking Alli and eating right.

Follow Richard Blais on Instagram and richardblais.net
If you want more info on Alli check out myalli.com

If you can’t see the recipes clear enough let me know and I will get you the link.

Disclosure: I received a gift bag full of goodies. Opinions are 100% all mine.

HEALTHY CHOICES MY FAMILY AND I MAKE WITH WELCH’S @Welchs @TheLicensingCo #Welchs

9 Dec

As a mom of 4 I’m sure there are plenty parents out there who wish they didn’t have picky eaters. I try to cook healthy for my kids and make sure they get their daily dosage of vegetables, & fruit, and leave out the junk food. Sometimes I have to sneak vegetables in their food either by pureeing or just put it on their plate and say eat those veggies first. I DO NOT allow anything with HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP in my house and that’s the main reason we gave up sodas and a lot of junk food. It can also be hidden in foods you would never even think. I read all labels and if it takes me an extra 20 minutes in the supermarket then it’s worth it for my family. Fruits aren’t that big of a problem in my house. My kids choices range from grapes, tangerines, apples, bananas so I’m glad they all can agree on that. I think my kids drink more than they eat. I go through so many drinks sometimes I have to stock up in the food warehouse stores so I have plenty. We love juices that are 100% like Welch’s Grape Juice, 100% White Grape Juice, and 100% White Grape Peach Juice just to name a few.

Welch’s Jams, Jellies, and Spreads have been a regular in our home for years. What kid doesn’t love a good peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Fast to make and a great snack. What parent doesn’t appreciate that?

Now Welch’s has another great snack which are their 100% Juice Ice Bars. What is a plus for me is No High Fructose Corn syrup and No Artificial Flavors. Three flavors- Grape, White Grape with Cherry Flavor, and White Grape with Tropical Flavor. I tasted these great juice ice bars at an event I attended and I was very happy and my kids were as well when I let them try. I will keep my freezer stocked with these handy bars for the kids to grab whenever they like.

Another Welch’s product I tried were the frozen fruits. These frozen fruits were made into a smoothie in no time. I was very impressed how it tasted so fresh as if I went to the farmer’s market that day and hand picked the fruit. You can’t tell they are frozen at all once you make your smoothie. There are different varieties to choose from like, Wild Blueberry, Mangoes, Mango Medley, Four Berry Mix, Antioxidant Fruit Blend, Strawberries Banana Mix, Raspberries, and Strawberries. I have no problem using these in my pancakes, in a glass of Welch’s Sparkling Cocktails, or right out of the bag. They are sold in re-sealable bags that lock in the fresh taste. Prices range from $3.49-$4.79 depending upon retailer margin and variety. Only 50-70 calories/serving. Naturally sweet- no added sugar.

Facts about Welch’s 100% Grape Juice:

Welch’s 100% a Grape Juice helps support a healthy heart , thanks to the dark purple Concord grape.
Is made with Concord grapes picked at their peak and grown in North America by Welch’s family farmers.
Is a convenient way to incorporate more purple fruit into a healthy diet. As a complement to whole fruit, each 4-oz. glass counts as one serving (1/2 cup) of fruit.
Uses the entire Concord grape- skin, seeds and all – to release natural plant nutrients (polyphenols)
straight from the grape. More than 20 Concord grapes are squeezed into each 4-oz glass.
Delivers an excellent source of the antioxidant vitamin C in each 4 -oz glass.
Is made with no added sugar, color, or flavor. It’s 100% juice!

Natures Touch Frozen Foods is the manufacturer of Welch’s Frozen Fruit. For more info check out their website http://www.naturestouch.ca/
An independent licensing agency formed in 1996 by Melvin Thomas and Angela Farrugia, The Licensing Company represents some of the best brands in the world like Welch’s, Bud Light, and Jeep, etc, etc.
For more info on Welch’s Licensing Agency visit http://www.thelicensingcompany.com
Don’t forget to visit Welch’s website welchs.com and grapescience.com

My family and I will always support Welch’s because Welch’s make sure they support healthy hearts and do not contain any high fructose corn syrup in their products.

TARGET’S HOLIDAY HOUSE PARTY #MyKindofHoliday

15 Nov

I had the privilege of being invited to Target’s Holiday House Party on November 12th down on Lafayette Street. It was absolutely the most amazing house. I’ve walked past this place plenty of times and never knew that it looked so gorgeous inside and has a swimming pool as well. Can you say Fabo? I’m moving in!!!

I got to take a sneak peek of Target’s Pinterest based collaboration with Premier Party Planner David Stark. Their exclusive holiday offerings included fashion, beauty, home decor, and groceries.
Everything looked so classy and expensive but with Target’s great prices you can get so much at next to nothing. The tables were beautifully decorated for your holiday parties. Gold, black, and silver dinner plates, candles, and silverware looked amazing on the dinner table. There was also a red , white, and plaid dinner set that looked great on the table and gave off a that Target signature look. From decorations, to bed spreads, clothing, and even groceries Target offers so much you don’t have to go store to store to do your shopping. Target makes it easy to find everything you need at incredible prices and your house will look like you spent a fortune and took days to decorate but you will still have money left in your pockets for a mani and pedi.

Archer Farm Is an exclusive brand owned by Target and sells high quality delicious food from frozen pizza, trail mix, appetizers, etc at affordable prices. We sampled amazing appetizers throughout the night like Hummus Flatbread used with Archer Farms Roasted Red Pepper Hummus, Mango Curry Dipping Sauce made with Archer Farms Mango Curry Grilling Sauce, and we also had lots of other yummy foods like Shrimp with Cilantro Lime a Dipping Sauce, etc, lots of candy to take home, and Vodka Sparkler on Rock Candy. I will put some recipes below.

There was also a collection of makeup available to try out. The line is called Pixi and I’m already in love with the lip gloss. Can’t wait to try the entire collection. Polaroid also has a great camera that prints out small pictures that are super fun. Great for a night out on the town. Love the red color. That’s on my wish list. Well everything I saw is on my wish list. Lol.

The home decor should be in everyone’s home with the beautiful turquoise and silver from throw pillows, chairs, and ornaments. I love plaid shirts so I was glad to see their collection of that and of course the shoes, and boots were on point. There was also a turquoise vest that was very nice as well. I definitely have to step up on purchasing more bed sheets, blankets, and comforters. There were sheets with snowflakes, stripes, and plaid. I loved them all and need them all. I have 5 beds that I would have to purchase for. That’s a lot but with Target I know I can can great deals.

There are so many varieties of great gifts to give. There was a frame made with chocolate coin candies put inside. How fun is that? You can also give a hot sauce collection as a gift to someone who loves cooking. I definitely have to score one of those bad boys. I love heat!!

I had a great time and even met a woman that knew me from elementary school. She even lives in my neighborhood, and has a blog too. What a small world. I still can’t believe she remembers me. She said I still look the same that I never aged. What a compliment! Thanks!

16 OF NEW YORK’S BEST COMFORT FOOD DISHES: CLASSIC AND CREATIVE

4 Oct

This article is from NewYork.com and I’d like to share with my readers.

Indulge in our favorite old-school and new-school takes on eight different types of comfort food — fried chicken, mac and cheese, burgers, all the so-bad-they’re-good-for-you foods you crave when the weather turns chilly
When that wisp of a chill hits the morning air, the shorts are packed away along with the swimsuits, and the sweaters are safely out of storage, it’s time for some good old-fashioned (and new-fangled) comfort food. As the days grow shorter and the clothes bulkier, New York City restaurant menus are skewing heartier much to the delight of comfort food enthusiasts everywhere. Here are 16 amazing comfort food dishes to try this season, eight in tried-and-traditional form and eight with a trendy, only-in-New-York twist. Bon appetite!

Crunchy Comfort: Fried Chicken
This quintessential Southern classic has plenty of fans far north of the Mason-Dixon line. There’s nothing like the taste sensation you get when biting through perfectly-crusted skin into the juicy meat of a breast or drumstick – using your hands, of course. It’s soul food at its finest.

Classic: Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken
Blue Ribbon’s version is so popular that the empire branched out with an East Village offshoot devoted to the bird. Fans appreciate the simple preparation — just a flour and spice coating — immersed in the fryer and served as “dinners” or by the piece. Bonus: BRFC goes beyond the conventional wings, drums and breast: necks and backs are available, too. 28 E. First St., 212-228-0404, blueribbonfriedchicken.com

Creative: Perry St
A little technology goes a long way for taste in Cedric Vongerichten’s modernist version of fried chicken. The executive chef at West Village’s Perry St aerates the batter with a soda charger for an ethereally light, super-crunchy crust; the D’artagnan meat is slow-cooked for maximum moisture; and a Scotch-bonnet sauce adds pizzazz to the entire package. 176 Perry St., 212-352-1900, perrystrestaurant.com

Cheesy Comfort: Mac and cheese
The most basic of dishes, easy to prepare, and fed to us from a box since we were old enough to eat solid food, it’s not just the childhood memories that makes mac and cheese a reassuring favorite. Just about any combo of cheese, cream, pasta and breadcrumbs make everything in the world seem right.

Classic: Dumont
This Brooklyn take is likely to make your childhood flash before your eyes. Extra creaminess equals extra soothing, and a mix of Gruyere, parmesan and cheddar yields a pungent, sharp and smooth flavor balance. Replacing slippery elbow macaroni with ridged, radiatore pasta is a genius touch — it literally clings on to the good stuff. 432 Union Ave., 718-486-7717, dumontrestaurant.com

Creative: Cafeteria
As if just plain ol’ mac and cheese wasn’t decadent enough, Chelsea’s Cafeteria stuffs it in a spring roll wrapper, deep-fries it, and serves it with a Gouda dipping sauce. 119 Seventh Ave., 212-414-1717, cafeteriagroup.com

Salty Comfort: Pastrami Sandwich

Born in the delis of the Lower East Side, a delicious pastrami sandwich brings back the good old days (real or imagined). You don’t need to be bar mitzvahed to appreciate the nostalgic, salty, meaty, old-world flavor. Made by soaking beef in brine, then smoking, and steaming it, it’s the only deli meat that gets a full Russian bathhouse treatment before serving.

Classic: Katz’s Delicatessen
Famous for its cold cuts, and as the setting for the “I’ll have what she’s having,” scene from When Harry Met Sally, the owners of this 125-year-old Lower East Side landmark like to say that Sally wasn’t faking it — it was their pastrami on rye that brought her to orgasm. 205 East Houston St., 212-254-2246, katzsdelicatessen.com

Creative: Empellon and Empellon Cocina
Chef Alex Stupak celebrates two of America’s great immigrant cultures in his short rib pastrami taco with pickled cabbage and mustard seed salsa — a Jew-Mex powerhouse so popular it’s the only taco he serves at both the East Village and West Village branches. Empellon Cocina 105 First Ave., 212-780-0999; Empellon Taqueria 230 W. Fourth St., 212-367-0999, empellon.com

The Perez Family @KidFreshFoods Super Duper Chicken Nuggets Review #SuperDuperKids

28 Aug

My New Year’s Resolution this year was to stop giving my family and myself included processed foods and cook more from scratch. With so many words I can’t even pronounce, nor know the meaning of in these packaged foods I just thought I was going to lose my mind. Anything that begins with sugar, or high fructose it stays on the shelve. If I want something nutritious and healthy for my kids it has to say 100% all natural. That’s where Kidfresh comes in. They put up a post on Twitter asking bloggers if they would like to review their healthy kids meals with hidden veggies. I quickly signed up with no hesitation. I’ve seen celebrities, and chefs purée veggies into brownies, lasagna, and different types of meats and I used to purée food at my job. I always said I’m going to purée veggies in my kids food but never got around to it. Everyone has picky eaters in their families and if we don’t start them early they will always say “that’s nasty.” Vegetables are very important and it would be nice if everyone ate them or at least had one favorite one they enjoyed. To those that don’t eat them you probably are and don’t even know it.

Kidfresh came up with these Super Duper Chicken Nuggets that has hidden veggies in them like cauliflower and onions. How many kids can you say absolutely loves onions? Maybe onion rings. Cauliflower maybe. I’ve seen kids go crazy when used on a veggie platter with ranch dip.

There are no artificial flavors or preservatives. All natural. 40% less sodium, and 73% less trans fat than the leading brand. Made with white meat chicken, and whole grain breading. The ingredients are simple, nutritious, and to the point. They also have a variety of meals that my kids are Definitley going to try next like: Easy Cheesy Ravioli, Muy Cheesy Quesadillas, and Spaghetti Loos & Meat Sauce just to name a few. These products are available nationwide in over 5,000 stores. Kidfresh.com/find-a-store
Suggested retail price is $3.49-$3.99

The same day I received the chicken nuggets my kids were ready to taste them. I made them for lunch. I baked them for about 12-14 minutes in the oven and they came out nice and crispy. I had to try one first because I would know right away if my kids would like them or not. They were very delicious I wanted to eat all of them. You couldn’t even tell veggies were in them. I started with my son who is 10 yrs old and I have to force him to eat vegetables. He took a bite and said “its just another nugget.” He did eat it though. My daughter however who is 6 yrs old was very impressed and wanted to eat them all like her mother. She said “let’s go buy more.” She’s been putting ketchup on all of her nuggets lately so she dipped them in ketchup and ate about 6 nuggets. I even gave my 17 yr old one to taste. No comment from him. Lol.

These cooked up fast and came in handy especially with everyone’s busy schedule. I will purchase these Super Duper Chicken Nuggets again as well as the other products.
I was not compensated for this post but I was given the product to test and a few goodies in a gift bag. I was also given coupons for a giveaway which you can click on the link below to enter. These are my opinions and they are 100% genuine.

BACK TO SCHOOL PICNIC IN CENTRAL PARK #BTSPicnic

25 Aug

Friday, August 23, 2013 was the day I planned to have a Back to School Picnic for the kids. It was held in Central Park and I wanted our kids to enjoy the last few weeks together before school starts. This picnic was to promote healthy foods and snacks for our kids lunch boxes and after school snacks. Some of the kids already started school, but they showed up after school and enjoyed the picnic. The day before the picnic it rained and I was hoping the grass wasn’t too wet but once that sun came out it pretty much dried up. The day turned out beautiful. The kids were able to enjoy the playground, sprinklers, and a recreation center with basketball. My kids came prepared with their scooters, football, basketball, jump rope, and hula hoop. They also bought along their UNO cards to play a game. A few of the other kids bought their footballs, scooters, etc as well. I also had bubbles, crayons, and coloring books for the kids to enjoy.

To all the families that came out I just want to say thank you for spending a fun filled day in beautiful Central Park. It was great seeing everyone and enjoying our kids smiling, happy faces. My daughter asked were we seeing the kids again. She likes playing with all her friends. Just being able to run free on the grass in all that open space for a kid is a great feeling.

I’d like to give a enormous thank you shout out to all the BRANDS who donated to the #BTSPicnic. Without you I don’t know what I would have done. Everything was greatly appreciated. To the BRANDS that didn’t get to deliver on time when the products come I will give to everyone that attended.
