#AccuWeatherReady Program & FDNY Want You And Your Family Prepared & Safe #ad #BeReady

23 Nov

Disclosure: AccuWeather sponsored this post. Opinions are mine 100%.

AccuWeather Partners with FDNY’s Fire Zone to Help Keep NYC Families Safe and Prepared for the Upcoming Winter Season with special presentation for 80+ Bronx 1st Graders.

The AccuWeather Ready program is a new year-round weather preparedness program that focuses on keeping people safe and informed. All of the AccuWeather Ready information is available on the 24/7 AccuWeather Network, http://www.AccuWeather.com/Ready and the AccuWeather app.

I headed to the FDNY Fire Zone to meet with FDNY Foundation Chairman, Stephen Ruzow, FDNY Foundation Executive Director, Jean O’ Shea, Nerisha Rivero, Fire Zone Director and Lieutenant Mancusto, Fire Safety Spokesperson.

Also in attendance were the AccuWeather staff: Chief Executive Officer, Barry Lee Myers, Chief Marketing Officer, John Dokes and Meteorologist Laura Velasquez.

With winter quickly approaching, AccuWeather, the global leader in weather information and digital media, has extended its continued mission to save lives, protect property and help people prosper with its new severe weather preparedness program, AccuWeather Ready, that focuses on keeping consumers safe and informed.

With a shared goal to help educate and protect people, especially throughout the cold winter season, AccuWeatherhas partnered with the FDNY Foundation to educate local students on how to be ready for winter weather – with preparedness plans and fire safety.

With the cold weather and holidays approaching some people might not have  enough heat and depend on space heaters, some might want to decorate the house with candles or attempt to fry a turkey indoors. Some of these could be very dangerous and start a fire in your home. If you must buy a heater find one that is approved for indoors and keep things away from it (blankets, shoes, anything can can catch on fire being next to it), Also don’t fry a turkey indoors that’s a No-No, You can now buy flameless candles. Ive heard a lot of people say they left their house and forgot to put the candle out. That could have resulted in a fire if it got knocked down by wind or a pet. Also cooking can cause a fire. I’ve had relatives leave pots on the stove on and walk away. Next minute the pit is smoking and the alarm is going off. I know when I cook I stay near the kitchen unless I’m cooking in a crock-pot where I can walk away. I never leave food cooking unattended. I also do not keep lighters or matches in my house. Those who smoke cigarettes aren’t off the hook either. It has happened where someone fell asleep with a cigarette in their hand and you know what happens next. That’s like going to sleep behind the wheel. If you know you’re tired don’t do it!!! Lives are more important. Make sure your smoke alarms are working. The new smoke alarms lasts for 10 years without having to change a battery.

AccuWeather presented the FDNY Foundation with a check for $25,000 for all the incredible, courageous  hard work they do.

Six Flags Great Adventure Thrills By Day, Fright By Night

17 Oct

Fright Fest is still happening on the weekends at Six Flags Great Adventure, Jackson NJ. Every year I say I’m going to go but I chicken out. This year Six Flags invited bloggers to their Fright Fest blogger event. From 11-6 the kids enjoyed thrills by day. New Halloween harmonies by the Skeletones, Just My Rottin Luck, Trick or Treat Trail and Spooktacular Dance Party. My kids were so into the rides we didn’t get to see any of this. We went all over the park just enjoying the rides and food.

I kept saying I was going to leave before 6pm when Fright Fest starts but I ran into my blogger friends and decided to stay past 6 pm. I’m glad I did. Yes the zombies came out and yes me and my kids were running from them like crazy but it isn’t as bad as it seems unless you go inside the haunted houses. There are also scare free kid zones where you don’t have to worry about zombies. We survived our first ever Fright Fest and I’m glad my kids and friends were there with me to keep me calm.

There’s a New Cell Block 6 haunted maze, Blood Shed, Big Top Terror, The Manor, The Awakening and Dead Man’s Party: Graveyard Rock both offering new scares in a new location.

Here’s a full description:

JACKSON, NJ — The world’s first fully interactive, horror-themed virtual reality coaster gaming experience, a new haunted prison maze and four new, devilishly entertaining shows including the world-famous Lizardman headline the biggest and scariest Fright Fest® season in history at Six Flags Great Adventure. Weekends and select days September 16 through October 31, families can enjoy all of their favorite roller coasters and thrill rides plus family-friendly themed attractions with Thrills by Day and terrifying mazes, scare zones and shows during Fright By Night.

Daytime thrills are devoted to families. Guests can start their visit by dancing to Halloween hits at the Spooktacular Street Party, or catch the Just My Rottin’ Luck magic show staring Raoul the Duke of Deception beginning Sept. 25. New this year, Six Flags introduces “The Skeletones” a ghostly and charming acapella group performing bad-to-the-bone harmonies at the Wilderness Theater. Children under 12 can journey down the Trick-or-Treat Trail while meeting their favorite characters.

Beginning at 6 p.m., things take a drastic turn with the Fright By Night festivities. Swarms of decaying zombies, crooked clowns, freaks of nature and monsters of the night emerge in The Awakening parade, and then Dr. Fright unleashes these horrors into the streets. As the night creeps on, guests can enjoy one of three new “Monstertainment” shows, a new haunted maze, and fresh takes on park classics.

New and improved this season:

· New! Rage of the Gargoyles virtual reality (VR) coaster – Riders will use Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus headsets to battle demonic creatures in the world’s first interactive gaming VR experience on a coaster, Skull Mountain. Exclusively for Season Pass holders, active Members, haunted maze pass purchasers and owners of the Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy Note7. Must be at least 13 years old to wear Samsung Gear VR. Must be at least 44” tall to ride with an adult or 48” to ride alone.

· New! Bilkum, Burnham & Haugh’s Side Show Spectacular – World-famous Lizardman, Murrugun the Mystic and the beautiful sorceress Catalina Askew headline this jaw-dropping and heart-pounding freak show.

· New! The Donniker Bros. Worlds of Mirth – Dark and devilish clowns urge guests to step right up to this uproarious new performance packed with unseemly humor and ample shenanigans.

· New! Slash – Gallows humor meets unsettling, gory, hard rock violence as illusionists John Bundy and Morgan blur the line between reality and horror, premiering in Showcase Theatre. Suitable for mature audiences only.

· New! Cell Block 6 Haunted Maze – A prison on lockdown is overrun with strange and scary inmates desperate to break free. Guests wind their way through twisting corridors trying to escape before it’s too late. Extra fee to participate.

· Dead Man’s Party: Graveyard Rock – Dr. Fright and his friends take over a graveyard for Fright Fest’s signature song and dance production featuring many new Halloween hits and dazzling special effects with the help of celebrity choreographer Ashle Dawson. New location in the Movietown Arena.

Six free scares, eight Monstertainment shows, the new Rage of the Gargoyles virtual reality coaster and the park’s world-class thrill ride collection are included with park admission, Season Pass and active Membership. Seven haunted mazes require an additional fee. Fright by Night is not recommended for children under 12 and those who scare easily.

Back To School Sandwiches With @BJsWholesale #shoptheclub #ad

12 Oct

National Sandwich Month is coming to an end but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy sandwiches whenever we want.

Back To School is approaching very fast and my kids know what type of lunches they want to take to school. When it comes to sandwiches they are only picky about the types of meat they eat.

A morning breakfast sandwich could be bacon, egg and cheese or a grilled cheese sandwich but a deli sandwich has to be honey glazed or regular turkey.

Since I’ll be preparing lunches for two kids I’m depending on BJ’s Wholesale to give me the great selection and meats, cheeses, breads, produce and condiments I need.

My daughter who’s going to 4th grade will probably be the one who will use cookie cutters and make cute faces for her food. (As she did below) My son who is going to 8th grade just wants a meal. He’s not into all the cute lunches.

I love pre-sliced cheeses. No cutting or slicing just take out of package, put on bread and that’s it. Wellsley  Farms has a variety of cheeses to choose from. Pepper Jack, Provolone, Sharp Cheddar and Muenster are on the top of our list.

Bread for my kids school lunches have to be on rolls. Even though the kids love Wellsley Farms whole wheat bread and Sara Lee Artesano Bread they prefer rolls at school. My daughter switches up sometimes. BJ’s has a great selection of fresh bakery bread from rolls to whole wheat and even challah when I want to make French Toast for breakfast.

(Turkey and Pepper Jack Cheese on a roll)

Deli meat is Turkey like I mentioned earlier. You can purchased from the deli department by the pound or packaged deli meats. I love Wellsley Farms brand and I think I’m going back to Chicken Breast which is also good. I’ll still but Turkey but I want to eat chicken again. I also want to try buffalo chicken as well. I love spicy food. My kids also love spicy.

So for back to school cold sandwiches hold better for my kids and when they get home they enjoy grilled cheese or panini sandwiches. No matter what type BJ’s has it all. Here are my grilled cheese and panini versions I made before. Grilled cheese doesn’t have to be just cheese I made a turkey, cheese, peppers and onions. The kids also loved the panini grilled cheese and the triple decker grilled cheese.

Here’s a great recipe from BJ’s for a grilled Cuban panini sandwich: http://journal.bjs.com/recipes/grilled-cuban-panini

Holiday Of Play Top Picks For Tweens and Teens #weknowplay

10 Oct

Toy Insider Holiday Of Play had me very excited to see what toys for my tweens and teens will make it in our house this year. I don’t have little ones anymore so it’s all about Tech, Stem, Games, Drones, and my daughter still loves her dolls and dollhouses, Shopkins and all girly things in between. I love playing al types of games with my kids from video games, board games, puzzles and outdoor activities. I also play girly toys with my daughter as well. This time around I’m focusing on ages 9 and up.

One outdoor activity game we love are Nerf Toys. We can’t wait to try out the Nerf Rebelle Flipside Bow. This bow has two five-dart drums that flip around to blast 10 darts. Kids can pull the string back and release it to send each dart flying up to 80 feet.

Another outdoor game we will take with us as we are huge Nintendo and Mario fans is the Nintendo MarioKart 8 QuadCopter Drone. Kids can fly Mario’s R/C quadrocopter with anti-gravity mode. Features a six-axle gyro system for flight stability, a protective cage for the rotors, and 2.4 GHz technology for up to seven minutes of flight. It has beginner and advanced modes, and a rechargeable battery.

My kids will also love the Nerf Mastodon Blaster. The first-ever motorized Nerf blaster is ready for battle with rapid-fire speed and a 24-dart drum. Its massive size and shoulder strap make for epic battles and easy maneuverability.

Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition just made me wanna battle my kids and show them how I used to do it. This new nostalgia-fueled gaming system is a near identical, mini replica of Nintendo’s original home console and syncs directly to a TV. It comes with 30 NES games built-in, including Super Mario Brothers and Pac-Man.

Yes my kids still play Minecraft games so this Lego Minecraft Jungle Tree House will be fun to build and keep them busy for a while. Kids can build an awesome tree house using more than 700 pieces, then defend it from intruders. The set includes a trap door to lure in Creeper, plus a tamed Ocelot and Alex figure.

Why spend money in the salon when I could give my daughter a pedicure at home with the Shimmer ‘N Sparkle Real Super Spa Salon. This spa provides the ultimate pedicure experience when kids add water and scented spa fizz. It features a cascading waterfall, sparkling lights, and bubbling water, leaving kids feeling pampered and relaxed.

I was also amazed with the Bose Build Speaker Cube- A Build-it-yourself Bluetooth Speaker for Kids. My kids enjoy taking things apart and putting things together.

I also want Snuggles My Dream Puppy from Moose Toys. This puppy looks so real and we just want to snuggle with him. Best thing about it I don’t have to clean up behind it or walk it. My kids want a puppy. Here it is.

These are just some of the games and toys that were featured at the Hokiday Of Play event. To learn more about all the toys please click here: http://www.thetoyinsider.com/2016-holiday-gift-guide/

Disclosure: I was invited to attend Holiday Of Play. Thank you for the invite from The Toy Insider and the fun time. Opinions are mine 100%.

Weekend Family Fun in Philly With The 2016 Toyota Rav 4

28 Sep

I enjoy car loans and test driving around the mean streets of New York and going on weekend getaways and road trips with the family. The Toyota 2016 Rav 4  SUV showed up and I fell in love immediately with the size, the interior design and the color. If you’re from New York you know how bumpy the streets are. With the Rav 4 you don’t feel a thing. Smooth driving all week was what I was doing.

When a car is delivered for a review it comes with a full tank of gas. I received it on a Monday and drove around taking care of errands and school drop offs with the kids. That Saturday was our family road trip to Philadelphia for a blogger event. Before our event started we toured the streets of Philly and the Museum. We made sure to get our Philly cheesesteaks and headed to the hotel after our event ended. We stayed the weekend in Philly and drove home Sunday. That full tank of gas got us there and back and I filled up a half tank in Manhattan for about $15. Can you say amazing? An EZ Pass also came with the Toyota Rav 4 courtesy of the company. That saved us a lot of money on tolls and we were very appreciative of that bonus.

The Toyota Rav 4 is very comfortable and the heated seats kept us warm that chilly morning. I love the cup holders, in front and back, leather steering wheel, power moonroof and ECO Mode that helps maximize fuel economy. RAV4’s standard backup camera displays a real-time view of what the camera sees behind you on the 6.1-in. touch-screen display on the dash. Always great to have.

The Entune Audio Plus system with Connected Navigation is standard on XLE and SE and ready to help you find your way. RAV4 is now equipped with the Scout GPS Link App, so simply pair your cell phone to get turn-by-turn directions.  I was happy to use this which came in handy.

We left New York with 2 bags in the back and came back with loads of things. The trunk was full and the cargo space was perfect for all of our goodies.

We give the Toyota 2016 Rav 4 eight thumbs up. Even though I have a big family and if I ever purchase a car or SUV I would need more seats but if I’m purchasing for myself this would be first on my list. I enjoyed driving and the kids enjoyed being back seat drivers. We miss it already and hope to drive it again.

Disclosure: Thank you Toyota for loaning us the 2016 Rav 4 for a week to review. Opinions are ours 100% as always.

NY Liberty and Laura Marano Back To School Night At MSG

14 Sep

NYC kids returned to school Septmeber 8th this year and what better way to start off the year with a surprise family night out at Madison Square Garden Septmeber 9th to watch NY Liberty take on Connecticut Sun. My kids were very excited to attend when I told them the good news. What made it more fun is the fact it was Back to School Night presented by Kids Foot Locker and a halftime performance by Laura Marano of the Disney Show Austin & Ally. She performed two songs Boom Box and La La. Also enjoying the game was 2016 Track & Field 3x medalist Tori Bowie Knicks alum John Starks and special guest DJ Nina Sky.

We always enjoy basketball games as a family at Madison Square Garden and every NY Liberty game we’ve attended they always win. They’ve been doing their thing. These young ladies are no joke and we are huge fans. The Liberty is one of New York’s most successful teams and are even making a run to qualify for the WNBA playoffs.

The first 5,000 fans were given back to school folders and pictures of Laura Marano. We had great seats and can’t wait to return. The score was 89-82 (NY Liberty).

Comfort In Kids Lee Jeans

26 Aug

5 Star Apparel Showroom in Manhattan is filled with kids clothing from different name brands. It’s like walking into a huge dream walk in closet with clothes at your service. I met with Brianne Tursi Manz (Stroller In The City) for a blogger event.

Once there I took a look at what all the brands had to offer. Lee Jeans stretch jeans with soft jogging material and a drawstring  were the jeans I knew my daughter would like. My rule is always comfort first.

Kids grow so fast so I’m always thinking ahead when buying clothes. My daughter loves dressing herself and putting outfits together.

When my daughter tried on her Lee Jeans she was able to bend, run, do a few cartwheels and just enjoy her Lee Jeans and style it with the Arizona Printed Peplum Cami (JC Penney) and her favorite glitter slip ons from (KidPik).

Disclosure: Thank you Brianne and 5 Star Apparel for the jeans. Opinions are our own 100% as always.
