KATE YOUNG COLLECTION AT TARGET

16 Apr

The Target at the East River Plaza Mall just off the FDR between 116th and 117th street had quite a few pieces of the Kate Young Collection. There was a tuxedo jacket I really liked and maybe one dress. The yellow dress looked better online. I saw both of the leotards but I didn’t know what I would wear it with so I passed. The jewelry and shoes were nearly gone. I guess this collection wasn’t for me but for those of you who absolutely must have her items get there before they are gone. I took pictures of what’s in stock.

Muy Bueno Cookbook Book Signing @MuyBuenoCooking @LaCasaAzulBooks

14 Apr

I took my kids to a book signing @LaCasaAzulBooks bookstore located in East Harlem to hear about and get the fabulous cookbook Muy Bueno Three Generations Of Authentic Mexican Flavor. First let me start by saying this is the best looking bookstore ever!!! I would live there if I could. Lol. The owner is beautiful and sweet and they have so many events and cooking classes.They’ve only been around 10 months so they have a 1 year anniversary coming up in June. It is so neat and quiet, set up is amazing, gorgeous stove that I wanted to take home, and my daughter immediately ran to the kids section where I purchased 2 books and stickers for her, a Spanish/English dictionary for my son, and for me the cookbook that was featured.

A family that cooks and eats together stays together and this amazing cookbook proves that. Three generations giving their audience delicious recipes through their grandmother’s eyes for her Mexican cuisine, their mother’s South of the border home style dishes, and the Latin fusion from the 3rd generation authors and sisters Veronica Gonzalez Smith, and Yvette Marquez Sharpnack.

I come from a mixed family so I grew up learning the Spanish recipes from my father whose parents are from Spain, Comfort foods from my grandmother who was from North Carolina, and my mother whose not too much of a cook I paid attention but taught her a lot as I got older. To this day she prefers my cooking over her own. I cannot stress enough how much I absolutely love cooking, baking, and enjoy having my kids in the kitchen with me learning and getting dirty, also paying attention, and asking questions. Kids grow up so fast and they need to know how to cook and not depend on anyone or fast food restaurants. I’m not saying they should ever turn down a meal if someone wants to cook for them or if they want to go to a restaurant but it’s very important to have this skill.

What made me want to attend this book signing was I wanted to try some new recipes that were authentic and any recipe that you can remember or still have on paper from your grandmother you know it’s gonna be good. I also love the fact that it is created by three generations who will also pass it down to their kids. The pictures are beautiful and makes you want to dive right in. I always wanted to write a cookbook but never knew where to start. Maybe one day.

Veronica and Yvette had a dish prepared for the audience to sample. It was their amazing Mushroom, Jalapeño, and Cilantro Salsa. I’m not a fan of mushrooms but when I tasted it you couldn’t even tell they were in there because the other ingredients were so good as well I forgot about them.

I want to make the Cilantro Lime Rice and the Coconut Flan because my father used to always give my sister and I flan. All the recipes are simple and I can’t wait to try them. I will post pictures when I do. I urge you to purchase this warm and inviting book for your collection and visit La Casa Azulejo Bookstore located at 143 E. 103rd Street between Lexington and Park in East Harlem NY.

Enjoy the pictures!!

@UnrulyHeir #NYFW

14 Apr

Once again I won 2 tickets to #NYFW to see @UnrulyHeir at the Park in Chelsea so I took my mom along this time and this show was different from the rest. There were marshmallows to roast, and a dj playing the right tunes if you were throwing a ski cabin party in the Poconos. The models stood in a line and you get to walk around and take their pictures while their serious or goofing off. This was L ‘Unruly Après Ski fall collection and there were a lot of plaid, red, even boxers with a ski mask and scarf. I liked what the twin models Marco and Matthew were wearing. I liked all the outfits from the hats down to the Converse sneakers they had on. My mother and I enjoyed ourselves and hope to be invited back next time. I also won an outfit which will go to my son. Here are my pics below. Enjoy!!

MY NEW HANDBAG

11 Apr

On my recent trip to @Marshalls I came across a handbag that just stood out and I knew I had to have it. Regular price $65.00 and I only paid $34.99 a steal. The weather here in NY went up to 82 degrees so that was the day to flaunt my new bag and I’m glad I did because I received compliments, and women staring at it. When I find a bag I like that is different I know I cannot leave it or I would regret it later. This gorgeous bag is by Diophy. Diophy.com I purchased a green color. The inside of the bag has a beautiful print as well and very roomy with plenty of pockets and zippers. It also comes with a strap for your shoulder if you want to use it. Enjoy the pictures.

WHAT I WORE WHEN I BLOGGED AT ONE OF MY FAVORITE COFFEE HANGOUTS

8 Apr

Since I started blogging I’ve been on a mission to find comfortable places (preferably cafe’s) to write and so far I’ve found a few so you know Dunkin Donuts had to be on the list because I need the triple threat – my caffeine, free wifi, and outlets. I also have to be dressed and ready for anything and now that the weather is breaking (finally) I can dress fashionably cool and write comfortably. I will be posting different outfits I love that fits my personal style, and what I feel is age appropriate for me. Some will be casual, dressy, hip, depending on the weather, my mood, and where I’m going. Hope you enjoy and if you have any questions about any of the pieces please ask.

The outfit below is Old Navy denim jacket, Gap white-t shirt, Max Studio skirt, earrings from Macy’s, and Polo sneakers. Tote bag and skirt from Marshall’s. Can’t figure out the name of bag so I took a picture of the tag. Maybe someone knows. 🙂 🙂

Getting my daughter’s ears pierced the second time around

31 Mar

If you keep up with my blog you know I have 3 boys and a girl so as a first time mom to a girl I was kind of worried about getting her ears pierced and who was going to do them. I noticed babies always had their ears pierced at a very young age but it seemed like a circumcision to me because their so innocent and fragile and don’t have a choice so I waited.

If I’m not mistaken my daughter was about 3 years old when I first attempted to get her ears pierced and it went by pretty good but she screamed up a storm. Everything was okay until the day the earrings came out and the new ones went in. The one’s I chose for her had a snap down like a small hoop earring and I snapped it down one day and it snapped her ear I didn’t know. It was bleeding and I was even scared. She was crying even more and that was the end of that.

After apologizing, cleaning her up, and making my daughter feel better I decided to let the hole close up and wait till she got older and see could decide if she wanted her ears pierced or not. Well she did. When she started school she said all the girls in her class has their ears pierced, and she sees me changing my earrings, and her grandmother just got her ears re-pierced so she would ask everyday.

Unlike me and my sister who had to wait to get our ears pierced till we were in our late teens because my father said we had enough holes in our bodies I gave my daughter the choice at an earlier age.I hated clip on earrings by the way. They pinched and never had a good selection.

She did very good this time. She didn’t want to hold anyone’s hand and didn’t cry at all. We were very proud. Mom, grandma, auntie, and brother were there for support.

I was able to get a few pictures. I will be taking a lot more. She looks so different now with them. My cutie pie!!!!

@_petite PARADE Day 2 #kidsfashionweek

24 Mar

Day 2 was just as fun as Day 1 and My daughter and son tagged along today for more amazing fashion. I took pictures too but will put the professional images by John Parra on this blog attached to the link along with a few of my own down below. Scheduled were Bonnie Young, Pale Cloud, Ki6, Iceberg, Miss Bluemarine, Silvia’s Heach Kids and Music by 9 year old DJ Fulano.

There was a Creative Workshop presented by The Little West Group and milkPOP in support of Only Make Believe. Kids got to decorate sneakers, t-shirts, or pillows with all types of glitter, markers, paint, ribbons, and crystals. My daughter did a t-shirt and a pillow for a small fee which went for a great cause Only Make Believe.

The 5:00pm showcase featured Andy & Evan, Beatrix New York, Cupcakes & Pastries, Isabel et Toi, Kissy Kissy, Pimalinda, Reina Mora, Snopea, SUOAK, Umi, Zutano, and Zuzii.
The 5:30pm show were all about the shoes Akers Kids, Saucony Kids, Sperry Top-sider, and Stride Rite.

The picture of DJ Fulano was taken by photographer Alix Martinez.

Once again every show was amazing and my daughter loved just about every outfit. My son enjoyed himself and they also enjoyed the amazing cupcakes by Georgetown. Delish! Snacks are always a must with kids so glad they made sure we were taken cared of and gift bags always a winner!! Met a lot of people this year and I’m glad I did. Also great to see my fellow bloggers and a few celebrities in the audience like June Ambrose, Alex McCord, Simon van Kempen and the Novogratz.
