Hyundai Tucson CUV 2016 Perez Family Review

10 Nov

Back in August 2015, Hyundai held their media event for the launch of the new 2016 Hyundai Tucson Compact Utility Vehicle. That is where I got to test drive the vehicle for the first time as everyone took a road trip to different pit stops throughout New Jersey like Lake Kanawauke, Rockefeller Lookout and many more. I fell in love with the different colors, size and how smooth the car drove on the road. The limited edition was my favorite which included leather seats, a panoramic sunroof, hands free smart liftgate, 17 or 19-inch alloy wheels, heated front and rear seats and a 5 or 8-inch touchscreen navigation system.

Drive Shop loaned me the 5-passenger Hyundai Tucson 2016 ECO FWD in Winter White for a week. Now, I could talk about the road trip we took or the errands I ran but I want to talk about the features and how the Tucson handles the road in an urban environment.

*Safety features I appreciated were:

*Dual advanced front air bags, front side impact air bags and curtain air bags with rollover sensors. Hillstart Assist Control and Downhill Break Control. I’ve always been kind of freaked out going up and down hills or sitting on one at a light knowing my car is slipping downhill. With these features I don’t have to worry anymore. When my foot is taken off break I don’t feel any gear slipping. Rear parking sensors make parallel parking simpler. Rear door child safety locks, rear center 3-point belt and child seat anchors were a plus in my book.

*Dual shift allowed me to drive in automatic mode where I can relax. More proactive drivers can switch to manual. When you slow down in speed the gears automatically downshifts for you. Sachs shock absorbers are great. As a NYer I’m sure drivers aren’t crazy about potholes. With these absorbers you have a smooth ride.

*The ECO mode saves gas. I could drive all day and rarely see the meter move. Sport mode gives you more power,  you can feel it and it comes in handy when passing large vehicles on the highway.

*Anti-whiplash front head restraints. Best comfortable headrest I’ve felt in a vehicle. Rear wiper and defogger comes in handy on foggy and rainy days. My kids loved the rear cupholders.

We really enjoyed the loaner and we took the vehicle a few fun places for the kids to enjoy getting away from the city. They loved going to City Island for seafood and Rock City for video games and fun. They also loved getting a ride to school everyday and we were sad to see it go but we are looking forward to more exciting road trips and future cruising with Drive Shop.

There’s so much more features that I enjoyed and appreciated but I’ll stop at this. To check out more about the Hyundai Tucson 2016 CUV check out their website: http://www.hyundaiusa.com

Big Apple Circus Family Fun Day

26 Oct

Sunday was a great day for the Big Apple Circus at Lincoln Center in the big blue tent. This was our first time going and we had great seats in the second row B Door 1. We went to the 12:30 afternoon show.

What I like about the tent is no matter where you sit you can see everything. It’s not too big and just the right amount of space, seats and acts. The show is about 2 hours with a 20 minute intermission and you can ride a pony during that intermission or after the show if you want, I  believe for a fee.

John Kennedy Kane is the Ringmaster who introduced each act. There are nine acts in the first half. The first act was called Overture followed by Charivari.

The Hula Hoop act had us saying how can she hula hoop with all of those? She started with one and ended up with over 20. She made a big slinky out of it too.

Feeling Hot, Ball Juggling and Dog Act were the next three acts. Very funny stuff in the Feeling Hot act where a pail of water and wet clown was involved. Ball Juggling did a great job using his feet and hands juggling all the balls. Dog Act had dogs of all sizes running around, jumping through hoops, riding on scooters and leaping into the air.

Handstands, Red Nose Transplant and The Wonder Wheel were the last three acts of the first half of the show. The group Energy Trio were made up of three guys whose handstands were in sync, very flexible and takes a lot of practice. They did a great job. The Wonder Wheel is always our favorite at any circus. It has us jumping out of our seats, screaming and our jaws dropping. It’s heart pounding and these guys are true dare Devils. They make it look so easy and one of them was even blind folded for a few seconds. Seeing it up close was breath taking and had me nervous but it was fun to watch.

Second half after intermission with eight acts were Lost In The Desert, Arabian Horses, Istanbul and African Acrobats. We were happy to see the horses perform. The African Acrobats from the Zuma Zuma Troupe did a wonderful job using their flexibility and strength.

The last four acts were Aerial Straps, Musical Chairs, Teeterboard and the Finale. You can’t have a circus without someone hanging on straps and bending and flying through the air. My favorite act of all was Musical Chairs. My daughter got picked to be in this act and she did a fantastic job!!! She made it to the end and WON a first class ticket to N.Y.,( not for real) just part of the act. She outwitted the clown and took the crown. I was so happy she got picked and so was she. She had fun doing that. I have it on video if you’d like to check it out. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/qzqd_EQm_x4

Teeterboard sent the performers flying through the air and landed on a padded cushion or into a chair. Some had on stilts and landed perfectly after flying through the air. These guys and gals showed their skills and made it look so easy.

Then there was the Finale which we didn’t want to end. Everyone came out and did a little dance, took a bow and gave their waves goodbyes. The show was a treat for us and everyone really did an amazing job. I encourage everyone to go see the Big Apple Circus. My kids and I had the best day at the Big Apple Circus. Loved seeing their faces light up with excitement.

The Big Apple Circus is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that brings joy and wonder to children and families inside and outside the tent. First Time Walking Across Brooklyn Bridge Using Runkeeper App

24 Oct

Momtrends and Runkeeper (health & fitness app) teamed up together to invite a few bloggers to run/walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. I’ve always wanted to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge but never got around to doing it so I said this would be a great time to scratch this off my bucket list and get fit at the same time with a bunch of colleagues. I also wanted to use the new & improved Runkeeper app and track my status.

We met Thursday morning in Brooklyn in our baby blue Runkeeper t-shirts and with my iced coffee in hand some of us ran and some walked across the bridge. I also periscoped some of my journey. You know if you’re walking with someone and talking and taking pics it doesn’t seem as far as you think. I just walked from one borough to another and back again. How cool was that?

I have my Runkeeper app hooked up to my Spotify so I could hear music but I was acting like a tourist in my own city that I didn’t even have time to listen to my music. The Runkeeper app tracks your workout in real time and let other runners become your running buddy and we could see each other’s progress and also check your running history. It’s a cool app. It also has GPS.

After our run/walk we headed to Almar restaurant in Brooklyn (Dumbo) for lunch. It was great. We were given a gift bag with goodies and I felt good. I think I will walk the bridge again. This time I will do it with my kids.

Thanks for a great morning on a beautiful 70 degree day. Now go download the Runkeeper app in the App Store and get out there and run!!!

Join Me In Taking The 7-Day Switch Up With Viva® Vantage®

6 Oct

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Viva® Vantage®.Opinions are mine 100% as always.
Viva® Vantage® understands that people fall into all kinds of routines in life, including the household products they buy, and sometimes miss out on other great options in the process. Therefore, Viva® Brand is asking consumers to switch up their normal routine by trying Viva® Vantage® for seven days to see what they have been missing with their regular paper towel. Experience the stretchy-strength and great scrubbing power of Viva® Vantage®, recently named a 2015 Product of the Year.

I was invited to a Viva® Vantage® Live Party to the house of Amy Oztan from selfish mom.com in Brookyln, NY to learn more about the product. I learned some great tips that I will incorporate in my home.

One of my favorite tips and newest kitchen switch up is to use a damp Viva® towel in the bottom of a container and put your washed strawberries on top and close with lid. They will last longer.

Another tip is to use a damp Viva® towel under your cutting board to prevent it from shifting while slicing and dicing. I learned this from culinary classes years ago and still use this tip till this day.

Ditch the bulky colander in favor of a paper towel. Place veggies and fruit on a sheet of Viva® Vantage® paper towels under a running faucet to function as a strainer; the stretchy-strength will keep the towel intact when wet.

Need to chill white wine quickly? Don’t dilute it with ice; wrap a damp paper towel around the bottle and put in the freezer to chill rapidly.

I also enjoyed decorating wine glasses after I hand washed and dried the glass using the cloth-like texture of Viva® Vantage®. There was also a sparkling finish.

I’d like to thank Amy for being a great host and making amazing food and sangria for her guests and also showing us her tips using Viva® Towels.

Check out the website and kick off your own “7-Day Switch Up” by visiting http://bit.ly/1T3mdFX for a Viva® Vantage® coupon to purchase and try the product. After experiencing the stretchy-strength and great scrubbing power of Viva® Vantage®, return to the website to dish on your switch and enter for a chance to instantly win a $100 gift card.

Smashburger’s New Better For You Kids Meal

“This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Smashburger.” All opinions are mine 100%.

After a fun day at an event with my kids I surprised them by taking them to Smashburger in lower Manhattan for a meal. I’ve never been to Smashburger nor my kids so this was exciting for all of us. I’ve heard of them before but never came across one.

We were there to try Smashburger’s new, better-for-you kid’s meal menu which consisted of Grilled Chicken Strips and Musselman’s Unsweetened Squeezable Apple Sauce and a drink. Unfortunately our location didn’t carry kid’s meals and my kids were hungry and I didn’t travel all the way down there to not try something so we ordered smashburgers in which I had the Sin City Burger, fries, haystack onions, a salad and drinks. I was disappointed they didn’t carry the kid’s meal but still made the best out of it and enjoyed everythingthing we ordered.

We enjoyed eating out at Smashburger and trying good affordable food as a family. I also took home burgers, and fries for my 19 year old son and he enjoyed it as well. We took milkshakes to go. I recently was in the neighborhood and stopped back in to Smashburger to talk to the manager about the kid’s meal. He said it’s coming soon and staff has been trained to prepare and will be put in the system. It will include what I mentioned above. I believe he said it’s coming later this month or this year. Couldn’t remember exact but this post is due way before that so I couldn’t wait. He did let me order the 3-piece grilled chicken strips for the kids to test out. I took it home and they tried it.

My kids are chicken lovers and they approved of these. The Grilled Chicken Strips are 100% premium all-white meat. I love that. When my local Smashburger get the kid’s meal they can enjoy an entrée, side and drink for a total of $5.49.

Besides the Musselman’s Unsweetened Squeezables they can also choose one of the three drink options: Organic HONEST Kids® Juice, Horizon Milk®, or a fountain drink, A USDA organic beverage, Organic HONEST Kids Juice is sweetened only with fruit juice, has ½ the sugar of leading kids juice drinks and 100% of the daily dose of Vitamin C Horizon Milk, a USDA organic beverage.

#SummerSocial InStyle Recap

27 Aug

In Style hosted their #SummerSocial event at 404 NYC highlighting all the must haves in beauty, fashion and lifestyle brands. It’s an event not to be missed.

Some brands that caught my eye were Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel. I remember this smell growing up from my mother and grandmother. I still use it till this day and now my kids love the towelettes and the face wipes. I will be taking these with me when traveling as well. They are also good after a workout in the gym. They also handed out a cute notepad with a key attached which was very nice.

Gardein meat free foods were the treats of the night. The fishless fish & chips and beefless tacos were spicy and so good. The crabless crab cakes were banging.

Thierry Mugler perfumes were amazing. I’m in love with the Alien scent. The other scent available was Angel. I was able to get both samples and a large Angel sample came in the gift bag. I will be stocking up on the Alien perfume. My favorite new perfume.

Peony had gorgeous leggings with animal and floral prints and asymmetrical tops and luxe tees to sports bras. Fashionable activewear that’s comfortable and can be mixed and matched. Leggings are versatile and can go from work to workout. Everyone received a great headband from them.

Sun Chips gave out samples of their chips. I love the Harvest Cheddar and French Onion. There were raffles throughout the night and I won a pair of Ross & Brown sunglasses. Loved it! I also enjoyed receiving Ponds cleansing towlettes in my gift bag as well. Essie nail polish in copper was also included. Can’t wait to try that color. I also decorated a cool cell phone case with gems and bling courtesy of Brancott Estate.

I had a great time with friends and connecting with brands and can’t wait till the next one. Thank you for the invite Single Edition Media.

#ShopkinsSwap Preview Event Recap at Toys R Us

24 Aug

If there’s one thing my daughter is obsessed with its Shopkins. She’s been collecting since Season 1 and to be honest I absolutely don’t mind. I like them myself. They are so cute. It’s fun not knowing what she’s  getting in the package then seeing her face light up when she gets a shopkin or the special limited edition, rare or ultra rare. She plays with them everyday. They’re not expensive and you can get a pack with two or the bigger packs with twenty. There’s so many and we won’t stop till we collect them all.

We were invited to the Media Preview Shopkins Swapkins Party at Toys R Us in Times Square, NYC on August 14. My daughter had no idea until we got to Toys R Us and she saw a character in costume and figured it out. However, I did tell her to bring a few Shopkins with her just incase she saw someone there with a Shopkin she wanted to swap with. She kept asking me “why if the swap wasn’t till that Saturday?”. “I said you never know”.

It was amazing. We were greeted by two Shopkins characters and led into the skybox for a great breakfast and to see what’s new. We love the new Lego Shopkins. There were Shopkins on the tables to also trade with and cookie decorating table, coloring and just swapping away. My daughter did good and got a few Shopkins she’s been wanting. She loved swapping with MommyandGracieShow and DisneyCarsToys.

Kids were also given a Limited Edition NY Apple Blossom Shopkins. Only 800 of these were made. That made my daughter’s day. Looking forward to collecting Lego Shopkins for my daughter and I’m sure Season 4 will be just as fun.

We had a great time. Thank you Toys R Us and Moose Toys for the invite. Yes, once again we rode the ferris wheel. It’s a must!!

Swim Classes With SwimToday #FunnestSport

17 Aug

My daughter is enjoying her swim lessons courtesy of Momtrends and SwimToday. She took swim lessons with her class the whole school year and didn’t want it to end so I was happy when Momtrends held an event with 5 time Olympian Dara Torres and SwimToday to discuss why swimming is the funnest sport and she also shared her experiences as a swimmer and a swim mom, address common misconceptions and educate parents on the sport’s top 10 benefits.

My daughter attends swimming lessons once a week at Asphalt Green on upper east side in NYC. This class is much smaller than her classmates at school so she gets that one on one attention to really focus so she can be the best swimmer. Her swim instructors are amazing. There’s been a few kids crying their eyes out but the instructors know how to talk to them and give them the confidence that they can do it.  Her class ends the end of August and I know she will miss it but she has learned so much and made big improvements. She even practices in the bathtub at home. Lol. She was given a bathing suit,  backpack, goggles and a swim cap. She will also receive a certificate of completion signed by Dara Torres. When we receive her certificate I will add a picture to this post and share on social media.

Why is swimming growing at such an immense rate? FUN is the number one reason that 99 percent of swim parents stated why their kids swim and swimming tops every category most important to parents.

SwimToday ambassador Dara Torres, a five-time Olympic swimmer-turned-swim-mom, and 13 industry partners are banding together to show non-swimmers and their parents why swimming is the #FunnestSport and provide a warm invitation to join in.

Through SwimToday, teams nationwide are inviting new swimmers and families to experience the sport with incentives such as free swim team trial periods, customized swim caps and promotional materials from kits sent to 1,500 swim teams to use locally. Parents can learn more about participating teams and find those nearest them by searching their zip code at http://www.SwimToday.org.

It’s closer than you think – 62 percent of families live within 10 minutes of a pool; 52 percent of households with combined income of $50,000 or less report they have access to a pool nearby

· Everyone participates – Swimming is inclusive, there are no benchwarmers (nor benches)

· Swimming is a team sport – Only 16 percent of non-swimming parents view swimming as a team sport but parents of swimmers associate the sport with teamwork more than any other sport

· Suit up and go – Only a swimsuit, cap and goggles are necessary to get started

· Life skills – Swimming increases self-confidence, self-esteem, time management, goal-setting and social development

· Easy to learn – 76 percent of parents said the ease of learning to swim was high

· Low risk of injury – No contact makes for a safer environment

· Swimming = total body fitness – Burn 650 calories in an hour – more than walking, biking or team sports

· Sport for life – Once you learn to swim, you can enjoy no matter your age

· Swimming is FUN – Parents confirm that swimming is the #FunnestSport

Disclosure: My daughter was given swimming lessons courtesy of Momtrends, SwimToday and Asphalt Green. Opinions are ours 100% as always.
